The Wealthy Mindset

Key Takeaways

  • You may have money and some wealth, but that doesn’t mean you have a wealthy mindset.
  • It’s very important to surround yourself with the right people, resources, money and capabilities.
  • The Coyle Personal Wealth Assessment will help you see how you’re doing in eight key areas of your financial life.

Remember our free workshop, Authoring a Book in 90 Days, on June 14.

My longtime dry cleaner told me the other day that he was moving all the way to the northern suburbs of Chicago. I saw his son, about 13 to 14 years old, helping him in the background like he frequently did. I correctly surmised that my cleaner was moving to get his son into a better school system. Of course, it meant my cleaner would have an hour-long commute each day to and from the business where he worked seven days a week. But, that kind of sacrifice was worth it to my cleaner, not only for his son’s education, but for his surroundings.

My cleaner wanted to make sure that his son grew up with a wealthy mindset. He wanted his son to be around children of wealthy and success-oriented people. These types of children are not guaranteed a life of professional success and wealth, but their odds are much greater than for less-advantaged children.

How about you? Do you have a wealthy mindset? You might have wealth and money, but do you have a truly wealthy mindset? I’m talking about the people we surround ourselves with — the resources, the capabilities, the money, etc. — based on who we are and how we live our lives. Here are eight key questions to ask yourself in order to develop a better wealth mindset:

  1. Are you maximizing cash flow?
  2. Are you minimizing taxes?
  3. Are your investments on track?
  4. Is your estate plan in order?
  5. Are you adequately insured?
  6. What are your plans for growth?
  7. How do you deal with change? Do you embrace it? Is it integrated into your life?
  8. How do you develop your immediate and extended family? With that in mind, how do you incorporate your philanthropic goals, your values and other capabilities?

Wealth is multifaceted. To help you get a sense of how far along you are on the path to wealth, we created the The Personal Wealth Assessment™. It’s a self-assessment tool that tells you how well you’re doing in each category, and it will really help you get a feel for what works best for you and for your family.

Take the free assessment. We’d be happy to discuss your results anytime at (847) 441-5644 or

Speaking of self-improvement, next Tuesday is our free workshop, Authoring a Book in 90 Days, right here at our offices from 9 am to 2 pm. If you or someone you care about has a great story to tell, we’d love to help you clarify your thoughts and turn that book idea into a reality.

Until next time, enjoy.
