Showing Up for Success
Key Takeaways
- Confidence doesn’t just appear one day; it’s built up over time and comes with experience.
- The easiest and quickest way to build confidence is to just keep showing up.
- The simple fact that you keep showing up means you will be learning, gaining new capabilities and skills that will eventually help you gain confidence.
Have you ever heard of the term “con man”? It’s short for “confidence man”, and it’s thought of as a negative term because someone has so much confidence that they end up convincing us to do bad things.
While that might be the negative version of what confidence can become, we all really do want to be confident in a good way. But how do we do that?
Confidence doesn’t appear one day out of the blue. You can’t just say, “I want confidence,” and suddenly, you’ve got it. It’s built up over time, and it comes with experience.
But mostly, it comes from just showing up.
You’ve probably heard the line before, that 80% of success in life is just showing up, and it’s true. Just plain showing up. You schedule something, or you make a commitment about something, whatever it happens to be, and you keep that commitment by showing up.
The simple fact that you show up for something, be it over a long period of time, or something shorter, there’s going to be some kind of learning that takes place. You’ll gain new capabilities and skills, and eventually, this confidence light bulb switches on and you feel like you’ve got it. Then, it’s just rinse and repeat.
You do it again, and you gain more and more confidence. Pretty soon, it becomes a part of who you are, part of your whole being.
I’ve done somewhere around 1,500 videos, so I’ve built up my confidence over time doing these videos because I’ve just shown up so many darn times! I knew when I first started recording videos, that if I just kept doing one after another, eventually, I’d gain the confidence and the capability.
Confidence doesn’t just appear. It’s orchestrated, systematic, structural, it’s a process you go through. It’s doing the things that successful people do, that unsuccessful people won’t do.
But it’s all about simply showing up. That makes the biggest difference in anything we do in life.
Until next time, enjoy.
