Slow Down and Give Thanks
It seems that every year, the holiday season arrives faster and faster. This year, with Thanksgiving being so late, you may find yourself rushing more than usual to squeeze in gift-buying, getting together with friends, and various holiday celebrations, before 2020 is upon us. But before all that, there’s Thanksgiving, here to remind us to take a breath and enjoy who and what we have in our lives.
Thanksgiving offers us the perfect excuse to slow down before the hustle and bustle of December. It’s about enjoying the company of family and the warmth of friendship. For those with family scattered many miles away, it’s become popular to host a “Friendsgiving” and forego the lengthy travel to visit family, knowing that the holidays around the corner will provide the opportunity for family get-togethers. For those fortunate enough to have their family nearby, it’s a wonderful opportunity to gather with our loved ones.
Indeed, Thanksgiving always feels like it has fewer strings attached to it than do the December holidays. There’s no pressure to give gifts, and whether you’re the type to run a 5k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, or sleep in and watch a movie marathon, you can choose to spend Thanksgiving however you like.
Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa…some stores have been decorated for these upcoming holidays well before Halloween! However, you may have noticed the trend in recent years of retailers closing on Thanksgiving, to allow their employees to enjoy the holiday. Take a cue from them and press pause, give thanks, and truly enjoy your Thanksgiving.
Until next time, enjoy.
