Untethered Virtual Worlds

I recently attended the Abundance 360 conference and virtual reality (VR) is one of the things we explored. You may have seen the movie, Ready Player One, which came out in early 2018. The movie follows a particular young man in the virtual world, doing many astounding things. He returns to this horrible life in what amounts to a vertical trailer park, for lack of a better way to put it. Hollywood has a way of playing those things out to get the maximum entertainment value from them.

Artificial Intelligence Now and Into the Future

Remember going paperless? I kind of laugh at that because it seems as if we’ve got even more paper now than we did before. But I know that’s not really true because you have your smartphones and tablet devices and you don’t typically print things off of those. You’re doing more things digitally with no paper associated with them at all. But paper is still with us and probably will be around for a long time to come.

The Super Credibility Curve

“We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next 10.” That’s a quote from Bill Gates and it applies to a number of different trends and situations, but I’m thinking about Blockchain, in particular. Other things in the past, such as railroads back in the 1830s and dotcoms in the late ‘90s, among others, are examples of this tendency to overestimate and underestimate the magnitude of change.

Paying It Forward With the Wisdom You’ve Gained

Back in 2000, a movie came out called Pay It Forward. It starred young actor Haley Joel Osment, who went on to play a leading role in the movie Sixth Sense as well. The Pay It Forward story shows how Osment’s character, Trevor McKinney, tries to make the world a better place. The movie made quite an impact, even serving as the impetus for a “pay it forward” movement that lasted a while afterward.

Tell Me Something Good – 2018 in Review

It was a busy year, to put it mildly. If you were to only listen to news outlets, 2018 may have sounded like the end was near! However, a lot of good things happened, as they always do. They may not have all been news headliners, but people around the world were not only doing good things, they were searching for the good in the world as well.

You Can Outsource Just About Anything, Except Your Decision Making

Lately, we’ve been looking at the relationship between “who” versus “how”. In other words, the “how” refers to a task or job we need to do. How we’d go about learning it, how we’d put the various pieces of the job together to complete it. Depending on what’s involved, it might take several months. But we could free up a lot of time and avoid the hassle of having to learn a new skill, with the inevitable mistakes along the way, if we found a qualified “who” with the experience and skill to get the job done right away.

Showing Up for Success

Have you ever heard of the term “con man”? It’s short for “confidence man”, and it’s thought of as a negative term because someone has so much confidence that they end up convincing us to do bad things.

Navigating the Business Highway

How many times has this happened to you? You’re in the left-hand lane, cruising smoothly down the highway at 70 miles an hour, and then all of a sudden, traffic slows down to 30 miles an hour. Then it speeds up again before grinding to a halt again—and this pattern continues over and over, much like the action of an accordion. Eventually, you see why. There’s an accident on your right-hand side and cars are stuck everywhere.
